This exciting annual Christmas concert saw a number of schools from across the county performing with the Somerset County Youth Band and Choir in the magnificent setting of Wells Cathedral.  The highly prestigious event on Monday 9 December celebrated the talents of young musicians in Somerset. As is tradition the Frome College Choir participated, but this time we merged our choir with Selwood Academy to make a 'super choir'.

We had the fortune this year to be directed by our very own piano teacher Alan Burgess, a well-respected and experienced choir leader. Emily Hampson directed the Selwood Choir as well as conducted the super choir at Wells. The aim of merging the choirs this year was to provide Selwood students the opportunity to experience life at Frome College and to encourage them to join our choir when they move up.

During the event students took part in the ‘massed items’, where we sang a number of seasonal ditties and traditional congregational carols alongside other school choirs.  The choir sang ‘Mary Did You Know?’ by Bob Greene (arr. E. Hampson), and ‘Away In A Manger’ by W. J. Kirkpatrick (arr. Bob Chilcott).

The College and Selwood choir performed excellently stunning a packed cathedral.  We were also one of the largest choirs in attendance with a total of 70 singers across both schools!
