This one year programme is designed to allow students to gain experience in the workplace, improve their employability skills and enhance their English and Maths qualifications.

What do students do on this course?

Spend two days each week in College:-

  • Completing a Work Skills Level 2 BTEC, which is largely computer based coursework without a final exam. Receive support to complete a strong CV.
  • Attending re-sit lessons in Maths and English GCSE if applicable.
  • Complete the NCS National Citizenship Scheme which gives invaluable skills and confidence. This is a short residential with team activities and a community project.

Attend a work placement two days per week:-

  • During term time only, between November and May.
  • To enable students to fully immerse themselves in the world of work and gain good relevant experience for their CV.
  • We have excellent links with local employers and aim to help students secure a placement in the area the student wishes to pursue as a career.
  • Some employers, if impressed, offer students an apprenticeship after the course.

Examples of placements our students have completed are:-

  • Animal care at a farm
  • Sports coach
  • Motor vehicle mechanic

  • An apprenticeship, sometimes with the placement employer.
  • A college course in an area they have identified they wish to pursue their career.
  • Frome College Sixth Form – the World of Work course can assist students in gaining up to 3 further qualifications to gain the entry grades into Sixth Form.
