Frome College believes that certain principles and values must guide our actions and relationships, with our employees, students and external organisations. Values of trust, honesty and integrity permeate through everything that we do and in the way that we do it.

Frome College acknowledges that teachers hold the keys to a better future for all. They inspire, challenge and empower young people to become innovative and responsible global citizens. Every day, they help to build the inclusive knowledge societies we need for tomorrow and the century ahead.

Frome College believes that Support Staff play an integral role alongside the teaching staff and must be valued as such.  It is acknowledged that much hidden hard work takes place each and every day just to keep the school open and functioning.

Learning is not possible without professional, well trained, well supported, accountable and valued staff. Teachers’ professional knowledge and skills are the most important factor for quality education. Frome College is committed to continual professional development and support and to the right for all staff to have honest evaluative feedback to enhance professional development, performance and learning outcomes.

It is also recognised that many teachers and support staff go the extra mile and well beyond ‘directed time’ or contracted hours. Indeed it is recognised that such goodwill enables a huge number of valuable activities to take place, such as sports fixtures across the county, Duke of Edinburgh, Cadets, trips, residentials, music, art, drama, public speaking, debating, business and enterprise activities, radio club, subject specific clubs and a whole range of other activities.  These activities are often THE activities that a student will remember from their time at College and represent the enduring ethos of our school.

We have a commitment to our community to provide the best education for our young people to ensure that they have the very best life chances. As an Upper School / High School it is recognised that every teaching group is an examination group which brings a high level of accountability and stress. Changing syllabi at GCSE, BTEC and A Level alongside changing assessment regimes is seen as exerting considerable additional pressure on our staff. The College is committed to working with all staff groups to seek ways of maintaining and improving staff welfare whist at the same time delivering high quality outcomes for all students.

All staff are stakeholders in Frome College. We all operate within the restrictions of a reducing real-terms budget, within one of the worst-funded local authorities and an authority that then top slices (from the budget) more than most. As an upper school a higher percentage than most will be enrolled in the Sixth Form. Downward pressures on Sixth Form funding, which is also exempt from changes in national funding formula, adds additional concerns. It is the ethos, professionalism and goodwill of staff at Frome College that allows our school to continue to grow from strength to strength improving the outcomes and opportunities for our young people.
