The Frome College Next Steps & Employability Team arranged the annual Participation Fair for students in all year groups on Wednesday 11 October from 9.30am–1.20pm in the Sports Hall at Fusion Lifestyle. Each year group were given a time slot and escorted to the hall to spend time looking at what was on offer, talking to the club organisers and registering their interest.

There was opportunity to try boxing with Elevation Boxing & Fitness, and practice pulling some interesting looking bows with Frome Town Archers.

Many clubs from Frome College were represented: including Mandarin, Chinese and German language clubs, BBC News Report, Debate, Music, Merlin Theatre, Board Games, Frome College Radio, Book Club, Creative Writing, Enterprise and the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, all of which are free to attend.

The counselling charity ‘We Hear You’ raised student awareness as did the multicultural project being run by Young People Frome. Students considering a career in Healthcare, found talking to the St John Ambulance Cadets and practicing CPR on the training dummies, fascinating. Students with an interest in the military talked to the Army, and the Frome College Navy Cadets. Many students could improve their fitness and gain new skills with Frome Judo Club, Elevation Boxing & Fitness, Frome Tennis Club, Frome Sports Centre, Frome Ladies Hockey Club, and Frome Canoe Club with its large Kayak display were all popular with students.

If you are a club or organisation who would like to attend next year’s event, or a business who can offer students work experience, please email our Employability Coordinator, Louise Friend at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Louise said ‘”It is so important for students CVs and university applications to have extra-curricular hobbies; which as well as being enjoyable, and an escape from today’s technology, also provides students with vital skills such as commitment, communication and teamwork. Twenty seven organisations were represented at the Participation Fair, and we would like to thank them all for giving up their time to support the College, and to help students gain important information and insight into so many exciting activities.”
