Congratulations go to Sol Warsop in Year 13, who has received the Rotary Club of Frome Young Photographer of the Year Award in the 14-17 year old category. The competition held at Rook Lane Chapel on Monday 27 November, was opened up this year to younger age groups. There were 42 entries, and each student submitted 3 photographs on the theme of ‘A Different Perspective’. The entrants were free to interpret the theme how they wanted, and each provided a statement on what had inspired their photographs.
Entries were received from pupils at Critchill School, North Hill, Selwood Academy, Trinity First, and Vallis First Schools.  The team of judges were headed by Ben Brain, the editor of the bestselling photographic magazine ‘Digital Camera’ and included James Bartholomew, a professional photographer who has a studio in Willow Vale and Jo Windel, an experienced photographer who has been photographing for the Frome Musical Theatre Company for many years.
Ben Brain commented on the very high standard of the photography which made the judging very difficult indeed when choosing the winners. Other winners were Charlie Matthews of North Hill House and Wilf Wright of Trinity First School.

All 3 winners were each presented with a glass clock trophy, and will progress to the Regional Finals which take place on 3 February 2018.  The judges also awarded Highly Commended to Beth McIntosh at Frome College.  Each competitor received a certificate and a small box of chocolates from Chris Page, the President of Frome Rotary. The Highly Commended winners received a copy of ‘Digital Camera’ and ‘Lightroom Software’ from Ben Brain.

Thanks were expressed to Bill Button, the CEO of NVB Architects, for the use of the excellent venue and for sponsoring the prizes.  Frome College Principal, Emma Reynolds, gave encouragement and thanks to the Rotary, and all involved in organising a most interesting and worthwhile competition.
