On Wednesday 11 April students of Frome College Sixth Form held a Canteen Takeover Day.

The Takeover Team consisted of 15 students from Years 12 & 13, who cooked in the industrial Hospitality kitchen located in the Design Technology block from 9.00am until lunchtime. There were 12 dishes on the menu, which were chosen based on a survey the team sent out in January, which asked everyone to give suggestions for healthier and different options they would like introduced to the regular menu. On the day, the  team cooked a range of tasty choices from falafels and hummus, to chicken stir-fry, sweet potato fries, homemade burgers, chicken fajita, brownies, flapjacks and granola. They also set up a wrap station where students could fill their own wraps with different fillings and sauces.
The day was a huge success! The Takeover Team had an incredible time in the kitchen, working together and rising to the challenge of cooking for over a hundred of their peers. Ruby Rumming, part of the team said: “I’ve never spent much time cooking before, and learnt so much about the process that goes into preparing, cooking and serving the food. I had loads of fun working as part of the team and loved eating the food too!” Bronwyn Incledon said: “Getting involved with the day was really exciting as we got to see our ideas develop into a real event, and it was great how the survey responses inspired such a successful day, which everyone seemed to really enjoy.”
The College's catering company, Sodexo, fully supported the project throughout its journey and helped with serving on the day. Susie Williams, who organised the Takeover Day said: “We were so blessed to have full backing from Aaron Millard and the Sodexo Team, who helped with all of the organising and were very generous in buying in all of the ingredients so that we could cook the Takeover Day Menu. We couldn’t do it without them!”
On the day, the Futures Café in the Sixth Form centre, took £280 - which is around double the usual £130-150 intake!
The Takeover Team: Susie Williams, Ben Green, Charleigh Mustow, Ruby Rumming, Bronwyn Incledon, Tia Roach, Katherine Cousins, Keeley Berry, Imy Piper, Jess Eardley, Ruby Plaxton, Kaitlyn Jade McGuinness-Roskruge, James Wallis, Chloe Eacott and Bethany Woodham. Miss Litterick, who was a HUGE help in the kitchen on the day, and Mrs King for helping us to organise it. To Aaron Millard, Nat and all of the Sodexo Team, and everyone in Frome College Sixth Form for getting involved on the day!
